She asks him if he's sure of that, and he basically fucks her again. Series: Flesh and Fire #1. Holland claims that she's so reckless and impulsive, to which she laughs and says it was her greatest flaw. Despite Nyktos being around 200 years old, he has had no sexual relationships in the past while Sera has. At one point, Sera finally asks him again why he made the deal for a Consort if he was not willing to keep up the end of the bargain. For this, I'm comparing Niktos in The Crown of Gilded Bones to Niktos in A Shadow in the Ember. Sera offers to try to at least heal her and bring her back, but Nyktos was against it. This is a spoiler but I don't think it would ruin the experience of reading the book. He was aware of Sera's birth, and of her heightened emotions throughout her life. It is a prequel sort of set way further back than the events of Blood and Ash.

While set in the same world as Blood and Ash, A Shadow of Ember was its own unique storyline with fresh characters. It is all personal preference. Both grew up with little to no personal items despite being surrounded by wealth. Sera reveals that this is why she did not want to bring back humans to life, because she didn't want the power of having to make that choice of who and when. So Sera was secretly taught to be an assassin and a seductress. Nyktos then reveals that the ember of life would have been powerful enough to evoke the symptoms that could be debilitating without the right combination of herbs, but then assures her that she won't have to go through these symptoms for much longer as she only has an ember of an eather. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. But before he did, he gave an ember of life to Sera resulting in her ability to heal others. I absolutely cannot wait to see the second book in this series because while it's similar to Blood and Ash in the sense there is some overlap with the mythology, it is a completely different story and plot.

Either way, her life is forfeit - it always has been, as she has been forever touched by Life and Death. Something that amuses Nyktos and he comments wanting to tell Sera about when Poppy meets Nyktos in A Crown of Gilded Bones. Things we know going into the series (kind of spoilers but also not): - Nyktos and Sera end up together; both are still alive and have had two children (twins) together named Malec and Ires. Genre: Fanstasy Romance. Nyktos can turn into a white wolf. Most of the story is Sera trying to learn the truth behind the past and her destiny, while also figuring out how to carry out her mission.

The god tells her to go back home and to not think about the night or the situation ever again, as he had been tracking Madis and Cressa for some time. But the only way Nyktos can help Sera Ascend is if he loves her. It is long, like 700 pages long. He sounds like he's going to be something. Read if you like: vampire fantasy but not super heavily focused on vampires, strong female leads, forced proximity romance. Due to this diagnosis, educating people on the varying degrees of blindness has become of passion of hers, right alongside writing, which she plans to do as long as she can.

The next morning Sera wakes up to find Tavius in her room, and things do not go well as he had pull the dagger that Sera normally keeps under her pillow, which means that Sera had been sleeping really deeply. But Sera has never had a choice. Though told through only Sera's POV, I loved how the author verbalised the character's emotions and thoughts. Per the fates, she does not reach her 21st birthday unless she Ascends. So that through me considering he's the Primal of Death. He is cruel and loves to punish Seraphena. Sera pretty much comes right out and says "that was before I met you, I fell in love with you, like seriously, I was never faking it. And are slightly (in Nyktos case) turned on by violence. He took the Ember of Life from Eythos because the woman he loved passed away and he wanted to bring her back to life. The god has never seen anything like this, and neither has Sera, but he takes care of it all and the corpse just disintegrates into ash. She gets pulled into Nyktos' office, and Saion tells her that the reason why it's incredible that she ascended a god is because it would mean a new transition, new stage of life. He comes back with a hot drink that Sera has to drink quickly–one that Sir Holland had given her back in the mortal realm.

And that's where I am here. And so it will begin with the last Chosen blood spilled, the great conspirator birthed from the flesh and fire of the Primals will awaken as the Harbinger and the Bringer of Death and Destruction to the lands gifted by the gods. In fact, she's guarded in her room no less than 6 times and every time she finds a way or excuse to slip off on her own, and she usually ends up in trouble. Liessa is a nickname that Nyktos calls Sera quite frequently throughout the novel. Sera is confused at the rightness she feels with him being there. Not to be confused with the Blood and Ash series, even though the second book of that is A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire. Holland counters with "or greatest strength" and tells them that her actions could have given whatever Eythos believed upon hearing the prophecy a chance to happen. Ash then reveals that Kolis is the one who killed Mycella while she was pregnant with Ash, because he believed that it was only fair that Eythos lost his love just as he did, and he managed to destroy Mycella's soul while killing her.
