We narrowed our search to the fuel pump relay in the kick panel and replaced it. Conclusion: Bad ground (I think). If not, look at the diagram, and verify each wire for the relay circuit is OK. With a few sprays of carb cleaner we could get the engine to run for a few seconds. Hello all, after spending a couple hours searching on the forum I still couldn't find my answer. I get power on the left hand clips of the fuses but FP 's not getting ideas????? My second tank swap on a 2013 Sportster and both times find the coating on the fuel pump ground wire inside the tank melted like wax off of the wire! OR just replace it with a new one. I put 12v to "a" on the relay tried my continuity tester on the FP fuse.... Also for the past year or so my gas gauge doesn't really work, it stays pegged on full, then falls quickly to half way mark when the jeeps about empty. It will be a black/white wire. These get tagged to the same wires going to the old unit. Ignore my other reply.. Theres a few grounds. It broke off right at the the tank. The wires have a three pin weatherpack connector, and are located on the front drivers side of the gas tank. There's either an internal issue with the fuse block itself, or you have an open circuit somewhere between the fuse block and the pump itself.

Apply 12V at FP relay connector, pin "A" - that will eliminate the relay. Making sparks with electricity could be bad (I think you are probably smart enough to figure that out on your own, but want to make sure it's clear for anyone else reading). ALDL is the diagnostic connector under the dash, right hand side of steering column. Both the fuel sending/pump unit and relay have black ground wires that you will want to connect to a solid, bare metal surface in the trunk with ring terminals. It was dried bubbled up plastic with bare wires showing. Although do bear in mind that there are probably far better options out there for vehicle kill switches. If you have the diagram open, look for it hitting some kind of switch before it hits ground. Not sure I fully understand what you're saying.
