And all I could think of in the moment was checking out if breath mints existed in the early 1930s for OUT OF THE DEEP I CRY. As other evidence mounts up, there are some red herrings... but at the end of the day this is a fair play puzzle that wraps everything up nicely. Brain immediately latched onto tiny fact & oh yeah, I see potential set-up for #10. Location of Applebees near Albany. The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. His wife, he believes, is a woman that he still loves... ALL MORTAL FLESH by Julia Spencer-Fleming. As is the case in other Spencer-Fleming novels, there are strong storylines which occur between Clare and Russ as well as several other secondary characters. This is the modern world filled with rapid change, loneliness, and random violence. I felt extremely manipulated and FRUSTRATED and angry. 9 books in this series. A potential murder victim is discovered, but the case is never solved. In this story, Russ and the Millers Kill (NY) Police Department are under pressure to solve the mysterious death of a young woman found lying dead on a rural road: perhaps the future of their department will depend upon whether they are successful or not. From the opening chapter, Julia Spencer-Fleming delves into the lives of her characters and takes the reader deep inside the story. THEN I find that the Police Chief's wife has thrown him out and shared the reasons with her best friend. The only problem with the ending is an attempt by the author to set the scene for the next novel but I highly recommend Hid from Our Eyes.

Both, for different reasons, and some of this was hard to read. "Fans of Val McDermid and Ian Rankin will love this. The third occurs over thirty years after the second, and Russ Van Alstyne is the third police chief to try to figure out what happened and if the three deaths are linked. Readers will be able to clearly follow from one timeline to another and back again. The books are action-oriented mysteries. The emotional roller-coaster that is "All Mortal Flesh" is likely to keep readers on the edge of their seats and turning-the-pages-as-fast-as-possible up to the shocking twist at the end that holds the power to change everything.

Clare is an ex-helicopter military pilot now an Episcopal priest when she falls in love with Sheriff Russ. A recovering alcoholic, he has settled down to a quiet life in his old home town. They are definitely flawed human beings, which makes them that much more interesting. That's when the light bulb finally went off over my head and it was just a matter of my waiting for the characters in the book to figure it out for themselves. It's so wonderful to be back with Russ and Clare again.

I don't even know where to start with describing this one, other than that it's pretty clear that we have now officially slid from "okaaaay... semi-plausible, I guess I'll roll with it" to "total soap opera" territory. "I do not think that day will be today, however. I may have to break down and buy the hardcover of the next one because I don't think I want to wait for the paperback to be published. Introduced so naturally.
