She spends several days thereafter in her room, becoming furious with the fact that Ash hadn't seen her at all. She thinks of herself as a monster. They tease each other for a bit about him watching her unmentionables as she entered the water, and she argues with him that the decent thing to do would have been to let her know he was there. Long story short, when it's time for Niktos to claim Sera, he rejects her and upsets the whole plan Sera's family had for killing the Primal and reversing a terrible curse upon their land.

When Niktos learns that Sera was raised and trained for one thing (to seduce him and kill him), he goes all moody and broody. Niktos brings up that Sera stabbed him at least a dozen times throughout the novel. He rarely lets his guard down or lets anyone in. Sera asks if that is a promise or more talk, and Nyktos tells her that he may kill her because he hadn't fed in decades and doesn't trust himself now, but then he uses the word "liessa"–the first time he'd used it since he found out about Sera's treachery. Sera meets Nyktos on a night she sees the horrific deaths of a family.
It turns out that there are some locations in the world where the boundary between the mortal and the god worlds is very thin, and one of those is the Lake where Sera and Ash had spent that one night. It also has extreme world-building, so there is a lot to take in. Initially, I felt a tiny bit let down. At one point Nyktos laughs at her suggestion of being worried that she'd stab him, and calls her liessa again, at which point Sera tells him to go fuck himself.

I can't stand it in a good way I guess. Though Nyktos originally tried to back out of the deal since neither he nor Sera was involved in that deal, he ends up eventually claiming her has his Consort after it becomes unsafe for Sera to remain in the mortal realm. Granted, it no longer is the same practice as it started out due to the ember of life being in Sera instead of the Primal of Life, Kolis. He is cruel and loves to punish Seraphena.
