Cv Axle Wont Go In

I have just finished putting in a new left side axle seal. I honestly didn't think about that carrier bearing in the oil pan supports housing. Replaced CV Joints...won't go! - Maintenance/Repairs. Installed trans and all went fine until I got to the passenger side cv axle install, fought and fought without success, finally went and got a different remanufactured axle, still no joy! I personally haven't dealt many axle replacements, but the guys over at pep boys where i ended up having to get the bearing pressed (only brought the assembly in) acted as if everything should be fine & i'm not sure i believe it.

Back again with the back up lights. I decided to try and disassemble the differential while it was still in the X5. I also tried putting the old cv axle back in the wheel assembly and it barely comes out the other end at all, even when it's all the way flush in the back. From a Ford Focus forum one of the posts said it responds better to light taps to get the retaining clip to work into the splines. I've read of people having problems when the CV pulls out of the diff. Makes me feel a lil better knowing they are super snug. If you get lucky and have enough force you'll beable to get it back into the diff. It's an '91 A523 3:50 large spline with OBX LSD all redone by Cluff Ramsdell. If its on warranty you can buy a new one, install it, bring back the old one, get the warranty replacement, and then return the replacement with your new one's receipt. From underneath I held the inner CV joint in while pushing the hub out, then letting it swing back in bottiming the CV joints to make a light tap. If the lock ring is too loose, too large in diameter, it won't function properly and will not shrink down and then pop back out locking the cv axle in, instead it will prevent installation. Guys, I really need help... My driver's side CV Axle Shaft just won't go in no matter what I do. What if only one side slipped out…would that make a difference? Solution: removed the boot from the old joint, and used the old splines b/c they were undamaged. I was thinking that, but really there's no way it could come out.

It's so tight you can no longer just feel for the splines and slide it in like normal. I can tap it in about 1/8" then it won't go any further. Passenger side CV axle won't go in. But I was finally able to use air tools again! I just had to reuse the old one (not ideal, but it works). The shaft measures the same as the original and the spline count is correct.

It can be off a spline or two or does it have to be exact? If you drop the differential, the axles will lower and pull out of the diff. Probably need a good bit of effort and things lined up just right for the. Access all special features of the site. Looks can be a bit deceiving sometimes and you do not have to tear everything apart to seat the inner joints.

Joined: 01 Dec 2014, 13:28. Axle won't pop back in!?! Year and Model: 2004 & 2016 XC90. You can't pull them out without taking the suspension apart or dropping the diff. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America).

I thought it was an issue with it lining up inside the trans but when you turn the rotor the passenger side wheel turns as well. If not, I agree with VDCdriver that it sounds like a spline engagement problem; or lack of engagement rather. Have anything that will help me get the axle back into the diff? Take the big bolt out where the lateral links attach to the upright (if you can). Problem with this is that since only the very end of the axle spline is engaged in the tranny, the spines may develop a slight twist because of the force of acceleration. I would chuck up a big drill bit that can just fit with some tape wrapped around to make it snug then turn it say 50-60 rpm like driving slow highway speeds just to make sure it didn't get damaged from the binding and pounding.
